About
South Carolina was my home and in my heart still is one of those places that have a hold on me. I can pick up the accent in two seconds, even though I was a northerner before moving there. My dorm roomies of university and boarding school years past, how I wish them well wherever they dispersed to the four corners after we said our good-byes. They helped teach me to call someone “sugar”, to join in “y’all”, “you know what I mean, jelly bean” to eat grits and gravy for breakfast, have the best biscuits, Po Folks restaurant which I hear is now closed up, Sunday buffets which I still dream about – is this all about food? Oh, but food and hospitality define the South, among other things. The beauty of the water and mountains and old Southern architecture is there for the gazing. The old oak and Spanish moss provide shade and have stood as the history of the Old South has unfolded into the new South. There is a reason people flock to SC for vacations, for it has its own flavor and culture, and great stretches of coast line for beach vacations.
