People visiting or living in Charleston find they make this a regular destination to head to. Put on comfortable shoes and relax, walk or run on eight acres of waterfront while watching ships passing by, phenomenal fountains including the pineapple fountain, a long pier with wooden swings, picnic areas, artful greenery, lots of benches to sit on and watch the world go by. You can bring a book, your laptop, a lunch or coffee. The park is near East Bay restaurants, so it is a good location to go after dinner to walk it off. Everybody loves the swings! There is no play ground for the children, but there are two fountains they can play in. There are shaded areas to cool down from the sunshine or you can bring a fishing rod and fish off the pier. Dolphins are often spotted, especially close to the pineapple fountain.
If you want to spend more money but not too much for accommodations, reserve a room at the Harbourview Inn, just by Waterfront Park. This incredible Charleston hotel will be just what the doctor ordered if you are looking for an oasis. A deluxe harbourview room can start at $309.00 on June 1, 2011 for two adults, but there are some lower priced rooms in the mid $200.00s. This beautiful historic gem does all it can to make your stay comfortable. Silver Service Breakfast served in your room or on the rooftop terrace, snacks and specialty teas served all day in the front lobby, complimentary hot tea service upon request in the afternoon, complimentary wine and cheese in the afternoon in the Atrium lobby, fridges and safes in each room, and so much more. You can get up in the morning and head to the park before breakfast to watch the dolphins or do your daily run, and at the end of the day return for spectacular view as the day winds down. You can walk to the Battery from here, catch the ferry to Sumter, or the Gin Joint for great cocktails in the evening.
The Harbourview Inn has great reviews and if this one doesn’t please you, probably nothing will.
